Obituary of Frank Smyth R.I.P.
Francis Smyth RIP
Dunsany GFC has lost one of its most loyal stalwarts with the passing of Francis Smyth on Saturday evening.
Francis died peacefully at the Mater Hospital.
Beloved husband of Deirdre, Francis was predeceased by his brother Christopher, sisters Vera and Carmel.
Francis will be greatly missed by his loving wife, brothers Michael, David, Dermot and Noel, Aunt Patsy (Teeling),
brother in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Francis was a former player with the club. He was a talented defender before injury brought his career to a premature end.
He went on to become a great supporter of the club and was the main sponsor for several years. His generosity was a major factor in coping with the club’s struggle to survive financially.
He rarely missed a game in which a Dunsany team was involved and even on Wednesday evening last, he was keeping in touch with the game against St Brigid’s from his hospital bed.
Francis was one of the Club’s Honorary Presidents.
Dunsany GFC extends its deepest sympathy to Deirdre and the Smyth family.
Due to Government restrictions, a private family Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday 17th June at 11am in the Church of the Assumption, Dunsany (limited to 50 persons). Burial immediately afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Francis’ funeral cortége will leave his home on Thursday morning at 10.15am en route to the church.
As a mark of respect, friends and neighbours are welcome to line the route in a safe and socially distanced manner.
House private please.
